What is Endovenous Laser Treatment?
This advanced technique for treating varicose veins was approved by the Federal Drug Administration in 2002 and is one of the least invasive methods of vein surgery. This procedure uses ultrasound-guided technology in order to ensure accuracy and precision throughout this delicate procedure.
Doctor Almeida will create a small incision and insert a fine catheter through the affected vein. A laser fiber is then fed through the catheter, and gentle pulses of laser energy are used to cauterize and seal off the faulty vein.
As the vein is numbed prior to treatment, most patients tolerate this procedure well and experience minimal to no pain. Once the laser fiber is positioned, the energy pulses begin where the vein originates and move along its perimeter, causing the vein to close.
After the vein is disabled, blood flow is directed to healthy vessels. While the vein is permanently sealed off, it remains in place in order to minimize bruising during the healing process.
Am I a Good Candidate for Endovenous Laser Treatment?
During your consultation with Dr. Almeida, factors such as your health, medical history and vascular condition will be evaluated to determine if endovenous laser treatment is right for you. This treatment method does not work for some types of veins, and certain contraindicating conditions may require further evaluation.
Are There Any Side Effects?
Endovenous laser treatment allows Dr. Almeida to completely visualize the procedure with ultrasound imaging, significantly reducing any complications. Any bruising, swelling or discomfort experienced afterward are temporary and can generally be controlled with prescribed medication.
Every surgical procedure carries a risk, and Dr. Almeida will discuss any possible adverse reactions that may apply to you.
While it is possible for new varicose veins to develop in the future, your individual condition will be expertly diagnosed and treated at the source by Dr. Almeida to significantly reduce the recurrence of varicose veins.
